2009 Course Offerings
This year, the Academy will provide the following course offerings:
Offering One: Coming Home in 2009- perspectives on "Homecoming", led by The Rev. Peter Nimmo and Father Stuart Chalmers. They will explore what the Bible and Christian tradition say about the theme of home:
Week 1: The family home
Week 2: The Church as home
Week 3: A national home?
Week 4: Heaven as the final homecoming
Offering Two: From Missions to Mission, led by Rev. Willis Jones of Crown Church and Stephen Aisthorpe Church of Scotland Development Officer . They will examine the contours of the emerging church. As some forms of our church life face decline and decay, there are, at the same tune, some startlingly new and exciting ways of the church being the church taking shape before our very eyes.
Offering Three: The Land of Spices- an exploration into Christian Praying, led by The Very Rev. Alex Gordon of St. Andrew's Cathedral.
Week 1: Getting the picture of prayer - an introduction to the theme and some different kinds of praying
Week 2: Getting Older and praying - some reflections on ageing (by Dr Harriet Mowat) and how we deal with it
Week 3: Getting Stuck in and just Getting Stuck - helps and hindrances to praying
Week 4: Getting to the Land of Spices - words of encouragement from the Saints
