The second half of the 2019 programme commences on Saturday 24 August at 12 noon, when Gordon Tocher, organist at Inverness Cathedral, will perform a Fugue and Choral Prelude by Bach, a Handel Organ Concerto, and a selection of compositions by 19th century French composers. Gordon has contributed much to Old High Music over the years, so we are delighted to welcome him back to the console.

Gordon Tocher was born in Inverness and studied music at Aberdeen University. He is engaged in a wide range of musical activities: as well as teaching and composing, he is Conductor of the Inverness Choral Society, and a member of the chamber choir Musick Fyne, the instrumental ensembles Coronach, The Marvel of Peru and the Merlewood Ensemble, and is Organist at Inverness Cathedral.

His compositions include instrumental, chamber and choral music, among them September Evening for guitar quartet, commissioned by the Scottish Guitar Festival and published by Corda Music, and a work for Musick Fyne, Menstralis and Musicianis. In 2007 the Highland Chamber Orchestra gave the première of Tidescape, and in 2010 he collaborated with Alasdair Nicolson and Edward McGuire in a joint commission to mark the HCO’s tenth anniversary, Fragments Completed.
